Change the look of a folder to your own preference

Personally I always change the look of my favourite folders to make them easier to spot by changing the icon.  This is the way to do it.

  1. Right-click on your favourite folder
  2. Click on “Properties”
  3. Click on the “Customize” tab (last one on the right)
  4. Click on “Change Icon”
  5. Now browse and select an icon that seems more meaningful to you for that particular folder
  6. Click on it
  7. Click “OK”
  8. Now click “Apply”
  9. Click “Ok”

You’re done!  Now you’ll be able to spot it more quickly among all the other generic folders.  You can do this for as many folders as you like.

I would not advise this for individual files, however!  If you change the look of a file rather than a folder, the change applies to all files of that type.  This means that if you change the icon of a document, from then on ALL of your documents will have that particular icon!
